T-Rex Walk Cycle

T-Rex Walk Cycle Animation - Feb 2026

In this project, I focused on weight, balance, and believable creature locomotion. My goal was to capture the massive scale and power of the beast, emphasizing heavy foot contact, subtle torso rotation, tail counterbalance, and overlapping motion throughout the body.
It was really fun digging into research papers about fossil footprints and translating those findings into the animation. Looking at things like stride length and weight distribution for the foot peel off.

I spend a lot of time analysing reference and on getting the the timing and spacing right to properly convey the creature’s weight, along with secondary motion in the tail, torso, head, and arms to prevent stiffness and enhance realism. The objective was to create a natural, game-ready loop that feels both powerful and alive.

To add some extra personality and flair, I used animation layers to add head shake, helping to break up repetition and bring more life into the cycle.

A big thank you to Peer Lemmers for his valuable feedback. it truly helped push this animation to the next level and deepened my understanding of the body mechanics behind a creature like this. These insights will definitely carry forward into my future work.

During the making of this The MYK Tool from my friend Kim proved invaluable !
